As an intern in our Food Safety Microbiology team, you will have the opportunity to explore the different stages of microbiological risk assessment in the confectionery industry—from raw materials to finished products. This six-month internship, based in Alba (Italy), is designed to support your learning journey and help you apply academic knowledge to real-world challenges. You will be guided by experienced professionals and work alongside a supportive team that is passionate about food safety. By contributing to projects focused on three pilot commodities, you will gradually develop your understanding of how scientific data, production processes, and environmental factors come together to shape product safety.
Throughout your internship, you will be supported in identifying and analyzing information on microbiological hazards relevant to specific confectionery categories. You will be encouraged to collect and interpret scientific and market data, assess associated risks, and participate in Business Impact Assessments using internal and external sources. With the help of your team, you will build a structured database to consolidate your findings and design a PowerBI dashboard to visually represent the identified risks. Your work will contribute to the development of a broader, end-to-end risk assessment framework that integrates intrinsic product risks, predictive microbiology, and environmental or process-related aspects. This internship is also a great opportunity for you to strengthen your skills in data management, visualization, and scientific communication—always with the guidance and mentorship of our team.
You are a curious and motivated student currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Food Safety Microbiology or Food Technology. You bring with you a solid academic understanding of food safety and a strong interest in learning how it is applied in an industrial setting. You’re eager to contribute while growing your skills in project organization, data analysis, and risk assessment. Your familiarity with Excel and your willingness to learn tools like PowerBI or predictive microbiology models will support your development during the internship. Fluency in English is essential, as you will be working with international documentation and communicating within a global team. Most importantly, you’re ready to ask questions, collaborate with others, and make the most of this learning experience in a welcoming and knowledgeable environment.
