We have a current opening for a Packaging Engineering Specialist (Contract) and are actively reviewing applications.

Under the supervision of the NAM Packaging Manager – Premium Chocolate, Spreads & Sugar, the Packaging Engineering Specialist is responsible for leading packaging industrialization activities for Nutella brands across North America. Working closely with Group Packaging Development, Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, Marketing, and external partners, this role supports the feasibility, development, optimization, and deployment of packaging solutions that meet timing, cost, quality, and sustainability requirements. The role plays a key part in packaging line trials, supplier collaboration, cost validation, risk mitigation, and continuous improvement initiatives across both industrial and co-packing environments.

  • Lead packaging development and project execution for global and regional initiatives, including structural design, validation testing, and industrial trials.
  • Drive continuous improvement and cost‑reduction efforts across existing packaging solutions while ensuring compliance with company guidelines and documentation standards.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with Marketing, Production, Suppliers, and Co‑packers to deliver feasible, high‑quality packaging aligned with technical specs and brand requirements.
  • Ensure quality and food safety standards are implemented and maintained throughout all packaging activities.
  • Manage SAP technical data, including creation of technical drawings, specifications, and data analysis.
  • Support supplier qualification and innovation, securing IP protections when needed and identifying improvement opportunities across the packaging supply base.
  • Proficient in SAP and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project), with working knowledge of design tools such as ArtiosCAD and palletization software like CAPE
  • Strong understanding of packaging component design, materials (corrugated, paperboard, rigid plastics, film), and packaging test methods
  • Knowledgeable about production processes, packaging machinery, and manufacturing systems
  • Skilled in project management, risk management, data analysis, and technical problem‑solving.Highly organized, adaptable, and effective in fast‑paced environments, working independently or cross‑functionally with all organizational levels.Demonstrates sound decision‑making, accountability, and strong interpersonal communication
  • Education
    Engineering with a Graduate of Industrial Packaging Programs preferred

The base salary range for this position is $72,000 - $96,000] annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This range represents the anticipated salary for this position at this time.
