Assistant Shift Engineer
Perform ongoing operation, maintenance and monitoring of all mechanical and associated systems required to maintain the environment of Ferrero owned and occupied buildings in order to ensure the health, safety, and comfort of building occupants and users in the most cost effective manner possible; perform general housekeeping duties and other similar activities to ensure facilities and equipment are kept clean and free of obstruction; ensure daily documentation and accurate records are maintained and reports are logged; perform a variety of inspections to determine requirements for preventative maintenance; perform other related duties as assigned.
Enforce and promote all company guidelines, policies and good manufacturing practices pertaining to all facets of the business, not limited to and including food safety and health & safety.
Perform ongoing operation, maintenance and monitoring of all HVAC and BAS associated systems required to maintain and enhance the environment of Ferrero owned and occupied buildings as assigned;
• Obtain relevant information through the reading of log book entries, discussions with previous shift personnel, inspection of pertinent conditions prior to assuming shift duties;
• Conduct daily routine checks of all equipment, noting leaks, vibrations, smoke, discolorations, hazards, or other conditions not consistent with normal operations; for main building and cocoa plant
• Note instrument indicators and record pertinent data in relevant logs;
• Observe and record instrument gauge data in relevant logs (pressure, temperature, and humidity);
• Check equipment for unusual temperatures, vibrations, or movements, noting tightness of adjustments in order to maintain maximum efficiency of operation;
• Ensure all guards and safety lock-outs are in place and operational prior to start-ups;
• Isolate equipment properly when and where required, neutralizing drained solutions, purging or directing to reclamation volatile or toxic waste, and following established isolation and disposal procedures to ensure safety of workers who enter, clean, inspect, or repair equipment;
• Ensure safe operation of electrical motors, auxiliary pumps, fan belts etc., including performing safe start-up and shut-down procedures in conjunction with other qualified trades people;
• Operate automatic control systems according to established procedure;
• Start, operate, maintain and monitor various types of boilers, chillers, compressors, and auxiliary, according to established procedures and as per TSSA authorization – also requires inspection, test, analysis, hydrostatic pressure test and water chemical treatment on regularly scheduled basis;
• Operate, maintain and monitor all plant auxiliary systems, including air compression and pneumatic control systems, electrical motor control centres, pollution control equipment, plant elevating systems, energy/steam sources for food service equipment, fuel oil pumps and day tanks, refrigeration systems, natural gas supply and utilization equipment, plumbing and auxiliary systems, according to established procedures;
• Maintain and monitor fire protection systems and auxiliary equipment;
• Operate, maintain and monitor (HVAC) hot water and air heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems including state of the art computerized (BAS) building automation systems;
• Make recommendations to Chief Engineer regarding changes to operating systems where efficiency can be increased without compromising effectiveness or replacement of components and parts where maintenance becomes too costly;
• Ensure the delivery of fuel and inspecting all equipment and systems relating to storage, conveyance and use of the fuel, recording and tracking usage of fuel;
• Studying and interpreting mechanical, electrical, structural instrumentation and automation system blueprints and maintenance manuals to facilitate repairs/knowledge of equipment and systems;
• Ensure daily documentation and accurate records are maintained and daily reports are logged;
• Liaise with and assist a variety of internal and external trades people, contractors, sub-contractors in the specialized repair of a variety of components or the installation of new equipment or parts;
• Work to optimize the efficiency of all systems through tests, analysis of logs, adjustments, regulation of controls, inspections, shutting down of equipment and machinery when not required, and ongoing general maintenance and repair of piping systems, pumps, fans, controls and similar system components;
• Perform general housekeeping, cleaning spills, removing needless objects or materials from work area and other similar activities to ensure facilities and equipment are kept clean and free of obstacles at all times.
•Minimum 3rd Class Operating Engineer’s Certification.
•Knowledge of Ferrero, Cocoa Plant and DC layouts and processes.
•Knowledge of all Utilities and Facilities equipment including equipment maintenance including Johnson Control and Siemens BAS systems.
•Microsoft Word and Excel and SAP.
•Good communication and interpersonal skills for problem-solving and interacting with Utilities team mates and Distribution Center contacts and Ferrero inter-departmental co-workers.
•Problem solving abilities and decision making in collaboration with Team Leader and Shift Engineer while on shift.
•Strong Microsoft Excel and Word skills, this job will require the incumbent to support the Ferrero ISO 14001, 50 001 energy program and metering programs.
•Must be able to work a 12 hour continental shift rotation.
