Health & Safety Specialist
The Health & Safety Specialist will coordinate and execute health and safety programs for the Bloomington Plant. You will be responsible for educating and monitoring health and safety systems for all personnel working in the Plant by routinely interacting with employees on the Production Floor. You will help ensure compliance to government regulations, company policies, and promote continuous improvement by studying leading and lagging indicators and implementing effective solutions, as needed.
• Develop site specific training programs required by company policies and local/federal regulations
• Implement systems, procedures, and work practices to ensure “audit ready” state of compliance
• Effectively coach and develop Supervisors and Managers to foster the culture that health and safety is a core value and that all employees should perform their work in a safe manner and prevent at risk behaviors
• Manage Worker’s Compensation claims from initial injury until case is resolved
• Work with injured worker and Supervisor to assign adequate duties that work within employee’s restrictions (if any), coordinate return to work program
• Understand health and safety risks associated with all positions and provide effective guidance to eliminate risks for potential accidents and injuries
• Hold monthly safety committee meetings to discuss safety issues within the facility
• Analyze incidents for root cause, severity, and frequency
• Maintain and monitor incident data and make recommendations for prevention
• Recommend preventive solutions to eliminate hazards
• Keep safety boards and communication tools up to date with pertinent health & safety information
• Provide H&S functional and technical expertise/coaching as needed in all areas; partners with other key functions on initiatives including Engineering, HR, Quality, Production, Continuous Improvement, etc. to deliver on goals
• Associate’s degree in occupational health and safety or related field; bachelor’s degree is preferred
• 2+ years of experience in coordinating Health & Safety activities, ideally in a manufacturing environment
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal interactions
• Ability to build teams throughout all levels and functions of the site with respect, tact and win-win outcomes
• Must be capable of making well-informed decisions in both routine and emergency situations
• Excellent written and oral communication skills are required along with the ability to communicate with audiences that have a broad range of background and understanding
• Training & presentation skills
• Must demonstrate good insight and ability to develop mutual solutions to challenges
• Ability to work in a team environment; live the Ferrero Leadership Principles and bring it to life for others
• Ability to organize and prioritize
• Ability to quickly learn site relevant federal and state OSHA, NFPA, ANSI requirements.
• Technical writing skills (policies, procedures, reference manuals, and training materials)
• Computer skills (Microsoft Office/Windows based)
• Reading and comprehension skills/legal & regulatory interpretation
• Initiative to lead continuous improvement efforts
The base salary range for this position is $63,000 - $79,000.00 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This range represents the anticipated salary for this position at this time.
