About the Role:

The Food Law Counsel APAC-MEA is responsible to help securing legal compliance of all mandatory and voluntary information (labeling, presentation, advertising) addressed to consumers in the concerned geographies; to support the team providing legal advices and risk assessment to the business, related to the existing products on the market as well as to new projects of the APAC-MEA portfolio innovation/renovation; to co-operate with all other Colleagues within the Legal Department whenever the food law point competence is requested, and to proactively support all Area activities and projects as part of the Food Law APAC-MEA team.  
The position of the resource is Food Law Counsel for APAC-MEA Countries, specifically China, India, Africa, French Islands and some Middle East Countries.
The resource will be part of the Food Law APAC-MEA Team, reporting into the Food Law APAC-MEA Manager. The resource will not have direct reports, but it is requested to work side by side with another team member based in China, to coordinate a regional Legal team on Food Law matters (India) and to interact with external consultancies in all other Countries. 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Check food law sources in APAC-MEA, prepare compliant labeling documents checking mandatory and voluntary legal requirements, operating as stand-alone Food Law Counsel in Africa, Levant and French Islands, or co-operating with other local legal colleagues in India and Food Law Counsels in China 
  • Help providing advices and risk assessments on products classification, claims and related conditions of use, marketing campaigns (leaflets, posters, TV ads, digital materials, etc.)
  • Collect legal text, articles, opinions, and other materials on relevant regulations and legal trends
  • Co-operate with global and local functions (e.g. marketing, quality, external affairs, R&D, supply chain, operations) contributing to global and local projects, crisis management and advocacy plans, and supporting on topics of food law interest related to APAC-MEA Countries
  • Enhance the culture of compliance within the Company, supporting the preparation and execution of food law trainings to internal and external resources towards the APAC-MEA area
  • Proactively participate to all initiatives within the Legal department and to cross-Area projects within both the Food Law APAC-MEA Area and the Global Food Law department

Who we are looking for:

  • Alternatively to the Master Degree in Law, other MSc Degrees can be evaluated, provided that a food law background can be proven
  • Proven knowledge of Food Law general principles and rules
  • Previous working experience in an International Law Firm, or in the Legal/Regulatory Affairs Department of a Global/Multi-national  Company, preferably in the FMCG sector is an asset
  • Excellent English proficiency
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of SAP is an asset

Professional know-how: Food Law general principles and rules.
Priority will be given to structured candidates, with a positive personal attitude, capability to work in a team and willingness to make decisions in complex situations.
