About the Role:

The Quality Lab Analyst position is located in Franklin Park, IL, the main Ferrero plant in the US with 700+ employees producing two iconic products: Butterfinger and Baby Ruth. The Quality Lab Analyst is a key functional position in Ferrero Quality organization responsible for chemical, physical, and sensorial evaluation of finished product, in-process products, packaging, and raw material samples.  In this role, you will execute the factory’s Chemical and Physical monitoring program for finished products, raw materials, and packaging materials. The Quality Lab Analyst will work in close coordination with the Quality, Operations, and Supply Chain teams to ensure all materials at inbound, in process, and Finished Products are compliant with Ferrero Food Safety and Quality Standards.
 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Under the guidance of the Laboratory Supervisor, ensure that all chemical-physical methods meet Ferrero requirements.  
  • Responsible for Chemical/Physical and Packaging laboratory operation regarding Good Laboratory Practices, including equipment monitoring and calibration.
  • Aseptically sample incoming raw materials and prep for internal and external testing. Sample incoming packaging materials as needed. 
  • Evaluate, develop, implement, and maintain testing procedures and programs.
  • Maintain internal control protocols by record keeping, troubleshooting, and escalating issues.
  • Perform chemical-physical testing in the laboratory and work to develop new methods for in-house testing. 
  • Interpret chemical-physical data generated both internally and by third party testing facilities. Report data and trends to appropriate personnel.  Initiate appropriate follow-up actions tied to data utilizing internal sources.
  • Troubleshoot all testing/sampling abnormalities to ensure accurate results are reported.  Initiate investigations for corrective/preventative action immediately as needed. 
  • Investigate product holds for chemical-physical reasons and make recommendations for appropriate actions based on scientific findings and/or company procedures.
  • Provide support to the facility to facilitate the implementation, maintenance, and audit of good manufacturing practices (GMP).   
  • Manage the facility’s raw material, packaging and finished product testing program.  Analyze results to ensure they are sound for Production and Corporate Quality. Document and report abnormalities based on company polices and assist in investigation and remedy of any found abnormalities.
  • Actively support and participate in facility’s Total Quality effort, including Quality Policy and factory objectives.
  • Provide support to the facility’s continuous improvement program. Continuously strive to improve customer/supplier relationships and business processes.
  • Participate as a key member of plant HACCP and Food Safety team.  
  • Responsible to have safe work instructions available for all positions, processes are run in accordance with SOP’s, SOPP’s and other documentation. All employees have the required level of safety training, all equipment and installations are well maintained with safety guards & devices and associates are using the appropriate PPE.
  • Assure any activities performed with an environmental impact are communicated and accomplished according to the environmental management system.
     

Who we are looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Food Science, or other Science Based Degree. 
  • Advanced knowledge of chemical-physical lab procedures.
  • Strong organizational skills, with attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and HARPC strongly preferred.
  • 1-3 years progressive experience in a Chemical laboratory Environment.
  • Food manufacturing experience highly preferred.
  • Microbiology experience is an asset.
  • Experience with SAP ERP system is an asset.
