About the Role:

Ferrero is on the lookout for an Industrial Health & Safety (H&S) Manager to join our team. In this vital role, you will offer guidance and support to the site management and their delegates regarding all aspects of Health and Safety. Your primary goal will be to continuously enhance the Health and Safety standards for everyone on-site, including visitors, while also ensuring strict adherence to legal requirements. It's important to note that while you will play a crucial role in driving Health and Safety initiatives, the ultimate responsibility for Health and Safety lies with the site manager.

As the Local H&S Manager, you will also take on the responsibility of implementing Ferrero's global H&S policies, procedures, initiatives, and programs at the local level. Your integration into the site leadership team is essential, as it facilitates direct and effective communication between those responsible for and those accountable for Health and Safety at the site. This position is pivotal in ensuring that Health and Safety are not just priorities but are embedded into the culture and operations of the site, promoting a safe and healthy environment for all.

Main Responsibilities:

As the Health & Safety Manager at Ferrero, your comprehensive role encompasses several pivotal responsibilities aimed at ensuring the wellbeing and safety of all site personnel and compliance with regulatory standards. You will proactively identify, evaluate, and reduce health and safety risks across the facility. This involves setting health and safety (H&S) goals and initiatives in accordance with Ferrero's global and regional guidelines, as well as leading investigations into H&S incidents—including near misses—to discover root causes and formulate corrective plans. You will keep abreast of the latest H&S regulatory requirements, updating the leadership team accordingly to maintain compliance.

Collaborating with site stakeholders to ensure adherence to all regulatory and Ferrero H&S standards is key. You are also tasked with monitoring and verifying local compliance with safety protocols, ensuring the execution of corrective actions following audits, inspections, and risk assessments, and providing regular reports on H&S metrics, issues, and incidents to stakeholders at various levels within the organisation.

Your role further extends to enhancing on-site safety awareness and fostering a proactive safety culture, which includes developing and implementing wellness activities. You will contribute to and ensure the local execution of H&S strategic plans that align with Ferrero's broader objectives, offering guidance and support to local management in all H&S-related matters. Establishing effective local emergency response protocols and structures is another critical area of responsibility.

In terms of health and safety risk assessment, you will work closely with representatives from different work centers to regularly conduct, train, and review risk assessments, collaborating with various functions to identify and implement strategies for reduce identified risks. This effort aims to prevent injuries and adverse health impacts among employees, with progress on mitigation activities monitored and reported regularly.

Policy development and procedural oversight form a core part of your duties. You will develop local H&S policies, procedures, and work instructions that reflect Ferrero's global policies, ensuring workplace adherence through regular inspections.

Driving and aiding the local rollout of H&S projects and programs is also within your purview. Training and raising awareness among on-site staff about H&S issues, including legal compliance and managerial accountability for safety, are crucial tasks. You will also provide H&S input into site changes, collaborate with technical procurement to include H&S criteria in contractor selection, and ensure preventive maintenance for safety-related equipment.

External responsibilities are equally as important and include maintaining relations with public health and safety authorities, acting as a local contact for government officials, and ensuring all legal H&S requirements are met. This involves managing licenses, notifications, and statutory equipment inspections. Reporting on site H&S performance, corrective and preventive actions, and participating in Ferrero's regional and global H&S meetings to share updates and best practices are key aspects of your role.

Finally, managing on-site medical staff or liaising with external medical services to address accidents, work environment issues, and ergonomics, along with developing and implementing wellbeing initiatives, underscores Ferrero's commitment to the holistic health and safety of its employees.

Who we are looking for:

In your role as Health & Safety Manager at Ferrero, you'll bring specialised knowledge in Health, Safety, and Food Safety, complemented by your experience overseeing complex locations. Ideally you will possess a NEBOSH Diploma or an equivalent qualification in Occupational Health & Safety is desirable or be a Chartered member of IOSH or actively working towards this status.

You should be motivated by results and committed to the pursuit of continual improvement, underpinned by a deep-rooted passion for Health & Safety. The ability to enhance professional skills proactively and engage effectively with people at all organisational levels to foster a robust safety culture is crucial. Experience in conducting internal audits and interacting with external regulatory bodies would be advantageous.

Your analytical skills should be sharp, capable of dissecting complex issues to uncover underlying causes. You’ll need to be comfortable working both autonomously and as part of a diverse team, driving continuous improvement as a core aspect of your daily activities. Effective communication with stakeholders from every function, at all business levels, and within the community, is essential for success in this position.
