About the Role:

In your role as a Data Scientist in the Agri-Competence Center in the Hazelnut Company, you will take charge of studying and analyzing all available data related to the hazelnut cultivation. Through this, you will be able to provide information that will, in turn, increase the quality, quantity, and sustainability of available hazelnuts.

Main Responsibilities:

Your key functions as a data scientist in our team we be the following: 

  • Enhance existing and implement new machine learning-based methods to predict the global hazelnut production;
  • Develop and deploy a model-based framework for the early prediction of hazelnut crop quality;
  • Develop processing chains to automatically convert satellite data into business intelligence relevant to the agribusiness;
  • Implement methods that assess land suitability for hazelnut cultivation;
  • Develop interactive data visualization applications for geospatial data related to the agribusiness;
  • Maintain a general understanding and monitoring of new innovations for precision farming techniques;


•    Analyze strategies and solutions to provide a better understanding of the data related to the hazelnut cultivation around the world;
•    Monitor the progress of the assigned research projects;
•    Evaluate results of studies and scientific projects in order to propose new advancements related to data science;


•    Is accountable to manage the financial resources assigned to the Data Science stream, including forecasting future expenses;

Who we are looking for:


  • Relevant work experience in Data Science or Remote Sensing; 
  • Master degree on Data Science, Remote Sensing, Computer Science, Environmental Modelling or any other related fields;
  • Experience in AI and Machine Learning as well as in the development and deployment of custom algorithms;
  • Experience in operational forecasting activities, preferably in yield forecasting;
  • Knowledge of Hazelnut cultivation knowledge and experience in crop quality modelling is considered a plus;
  • Capacity to manage projects and cooperation with Research institutions;
  • Statistical knowledge;
  • Detail-oriented and problem-solving mindset;
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment;

IT Skills

  • Advanced working knowledge of programming and scripting languages such as R, Python, Matlab and SQL;
  • Demonstrated experience with Geographical Information Systems (QGIS, ArcGIS) and/or Earth Observation data;
  • Hands-on experience with version control systems (e.g. git) and collaborative workflows;
  • Microsoft Office 365 applications knowledge is mandatory;
  • Familiarity with data visualization in PowerBI is an asset;
  • Additional knowledge of Databricks, Spark and C# is considered a plus;

Communication Skills

  • Fluent English, any other language will be considered a plus;
  • Ability to speak with and translate findings to business stakeholders with little/no computer science background;
