About the Role

The Plant Quality Manager has a key role to play in the leadership and transformation of the Quality System at the Florence bakery. This role serves as the quality and compliance lead for the factory, working with cross functional partners across the value chain, while fostering a culture of food safety and quality. 

The PQM is responsible for coordinating the day-to-day activities of a team of quality assurance professionals in the bakery. The PQM ensures raw materials, semi-finished, and finished goods meet quality and food safety standards. The PQM ensures compliance with FDA requirements; this involves ensuring good manufacturing practices are met as well as monitoring, verification, and validation of equipment and processes. Finally, the PQM sets the direction for the quality department and prepares KPI reports for North American leadership.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Manages and develops a team of quality professionals.
  • Ensures that Plant personnel is adequately trained on quality and food safety
  • Supervises factory quality activities as needed
  • Determines focus & direction of the department
  • Ensures food safety standards are met
  • Audits and enforces Good Manufacturing Practices
  • Ensures compliance with GFSI standards and related programs and procedures
  • Develops and Maintains Quality and Food Safety procedures, records and documents
  • Ensures adherence to all company policies and procedures
  • Understands and demonstrates the Company’s core values
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Who we are looking for:

  • Bachelor’s (Master’s preferred) degree in Food Sciences, or related field
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in quality assurance with experience is a food related industry
  • HACCP Certification
  • FSMA, PCQI, GFSI certifications
  • Technical competences in Bakery Industry preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret quality and regulatory documents
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Effective problem-solving abilities (both interpersonal and operational)
  • Ability to successfully coordinate several activities concurrently
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • Knowledge of HACCP, FSMA, SQF/FSSC, ISO 9001, GMPs, SOPs, safety and training programs
  • Auditing and assessment skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite/SAP
  • Mastery of food safety and regulatory principles
